Monkey King
A 26 string puppet in the style of Quanzhou, the home of the most sophisticated marionettes in China

This is a scene from a Chinese legend Journey to the West, also known as the legend of the Monkey King. Monkey King, served and protected his master, the Holy Buddhist monk, to India during the Tang Dynasty in order to obtain Buddhist religious texts called sutras. This scene shows how Monkey King used his talents and skills to fight demons and play pranks.
